Over the course of the autumn term, 11 Baltic have read a variety of books, these included War Horse and Small Steps. Pupils immersed themselves within the books, developing and expanding their vocabulary. This time of tranquillity had a significant impact on reducing stress levels, with one pupil stating that “No matter how much stress I have at school, it all just slips away when I lose myself in a great story”.
Mindfulness sessions were spent in the school gym, undertaking various physical activities. These included resistance training, circuits and sports such as boxing. The feedback from these sessions was very positive; with pupils highlighting that “finding an outlet for aggression can be both empowering and healing”.
The tutor group’s problem solving skills were put to the test over the course of the term, undertaking a variety of different activities, from developing verbal /non-verbal communication skills to thinking outside the box, pupils worked as a team and as an individual to overcome the various challenges they encountered.
